Nope! But there was baffling on the front side of the radiator to help direct air flow through the radiator. DD

No original shroud. But I fitted a walker plastic shroud to my 41 pickup. You have to measure and cut the hole, but it works well. I found a few threads on here about others who did the same.

As Coopman has stated, nope.
In addition to the side shields on the radiator, there was a lower pan below the radiator as well as a left and right "engine" pan. These all should be in place for proper air flow beneath your hood.

You shouldn't need a shroud. If a shroud is installed and helps, there are underlying issues that have not been properly addressed.

Mike, Can you post a picture of the side shields. Mine might be missing.
Thanks, Phil

Thanks Kube,

No issues, just trying to make sure all is where it should be. I have a bucket of parts that I do not know where they came from and I am trying to work it all out still....

My 40MERC has a hot air heater with a shroud and pans. My 39Ford has a shroud from a 38 dump truck

Here are three photos depicting all of the shields required. The side shields for a 60HP are different than those in the attached photo.

Hi Phil,

They fit between the grill louvered grill parts and the fenders.

Yes, Bob Drake has them.

I found them. Just never noticed them before. Wouldn't it help to add an additional panel to the top side of the grille like the shoeboxes have? There is even a bolt on the upper member going nowhere. As it is, there is a big gapping hole over the grille that will send air up under the hood instead of through the radiator. I see panels are for sale for the top for about 100 bucks.

Thanks, Phil

Make 2 thin sheet metal, smooth hardboard etc. panel that you can tuck up inside the nose of the hood. Mine are held in with a dab of silicone glue. been there 20 years. I only painted one side.
Doing this, you don't need to buy that $100 piece.

Yea but it comes in shinny stainless. By the time you go out and buy the material, cut and bend it and drill the holes thru stainless, it might be worth the hundred bucks. You want it to look nice under your hood.

Do you think it helps cooling much?

Kube, I found the parts in the first pic, labeled engine pans. Where do they mount? I found them in one of the spare part boxes

If you look carefully at each side frame rail, you'll note a threaded hole for each of the two 1/4" screws. The third is on the front crossmember.
Between the pan and frame, a small piece of duck cloth was installed to prevent rattling. That can be purchased at any fabric store.

You'll need to remove the pitman arm to install the left pan. To install the right pan, you'll need to remove the exhaust pipe.

I know it's not the correct OEM thing to do but you can install the panel that goes around the pitman arm if you make a hacksaw cut and flex it to fit. I also made a little sheet metal clip that was installed afterwards to secure the kerf. Sure beats pulling the pitman arm.

Philip: I used a little sabre saw to cut the thin hardboard and then glued it in place. No bending required. I didn't have the heart to drill holes in top OEM grille bracket to secure the stainless piece.

Actually, if you do decide to use the panel, make one out of thin sheet metal like the stainless piece, paint it the color of your car so it doesn't look like an obvious add on. It looks better when you open your hood and don't see that stainless piece on top of your grille. You want it to blend in.
But, that's just my thinking.
I never did any before and after temp checks regarding the panel I made.

It would be neat to see a wind smoke tunnel test showing how the air coming thru the front grille circulates and flows through the radiator under the hood and then exits for new incoming fresh air. Wonder if anyone knows?

I made a set from 1/16" poly. painted with product good for plastic. Two small sheet metal screws are all I used to hold them in place.
