The 18-### is a 1935 serial, so very likely that is your pickup's original primary serial number. The 40- is just the part number for the shifter casting.

According to the DeAngelis book, that is a January 1935 stamp number.
Jackno, Check the top of the left frame rail near the steering box. If the same number stamped on the transmission is stamped on the left frame rail, then this trans is original to the truck. |

Re: 35 PU transmission #'s
Look at the title for that vehicle if you have one. See if that transmission number is the same as the serial number specified on the title. The prefix of the transmission/frame, 18- may not appear on the title as part of the serial number.

Jake, that don't even sound like a 35 Ford serial no. to me. As TonyM says, clean off the top of the left hand frame rail between the firewall and the front cross member, you'll find a serial no. *18-------- Walt

Re: 35 PU transmission #'s
That looks more like a title number rather than a serial #. There were no Vin #'s per sa on these early Ford V-8's

Re: 35 PU transmission #'s
Probably a state assigned number...is there a matching tag on firewall or doorframe?
