Re: Australia Fires
This is a Coulson 737 tanker dropping on that fire.
https://www.facebook.com/OnSceneACT/...6030883377923/ It was a Coulson C130 that crashed about a bit over an hours drive south. It is still being investigated what went wrong. Wayne Coulson arrived here a few days ago. PS. With this version you can go full screen and see the tracer put out by the first plane. https://twitter.com/siobhanheanue/st...74301212393472 Last edited by updraught; 01-30-2020 at 01:50 AM. |

You can see a mob of 'roos in this clip, getting the hell out of there as the plane approaches. Hopefully, they avoided adding themselves to the estimated 1 billion animals that have been lost to bushfires this season. These fires are a catastrophe on a global scale, burning as much as 20 times the area of Amazon rainforest lost to fire last year. It's a sad time for us here in Australia. |

Re: Australia Fires
Another scary video that I just came across shows what it's like to be caught in the firestorms created by these fires - this one at Currowan.

Re: Australia Fires
Just in case you're all hanging out to see if our house burnt down ...
Well, the wind has been blowing from the north west, so it's pushed the fire away from us ... for now. One quarter of our state has now been burnt from that one fire of a few days ago. We were told it was making its own weather. Apparently this happens when enough heat goes into the upper atmosphere. Seems to be a modern thing. Today was a bit cooler and calmer from yesterdays state of emergency. Here is a news report. Our local 4wd club has a property near Bredbo. It's only a matter of time before it goes up. That 2003 fire was also a firestorm. Fire chiefs are saying things have been changing since 1999. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-...tinue/11919832 https://nnimgt-a.akamaihd.net/transf..._h678_fmax.jpg We are being told not to be "disaster tourists" and take photos. Then we are told we should visit fire effected areas as they need the tourism dollars. Then roads get cut as old fires flair again. Can't win really. |
