Re: Shackles? Can I build a set?
I fab's shackles on my '41 out of CRS side plates and moly impregnated nylon. Used long allen cap bolts and nylok nuts. they were still on the car when we sold it 24 yrs later. I checked the nylon a couple times and found no wear

Re: Shackles? Can I build a set?
I installed the replacement original looking shackles on the rear. The insides are made of rubber and are not as robust as the original asbestos ones. I messed up at least one trying to press them in. Hence I went to the speedway type with nylon bushing and then switch them out for oillite bronze bushings on the front. The local truck spring shop made me a new front spring with nylon buttons and reversed main and a few less springs overall.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. |
