Default Engine color and road draft tube

Hi All,
In 1957 what was the stock engine color for a 292 red or black?
Also anyone know where I might buy a stock road draft tube?
Thank You

Valve covers and accessories/pulleys were black. Air cleaner was argent.

The original engine block color was called Ford Red.
It appeared to have an orange tint. Originally it was a high temperature enamel.
Mac's sells it in a spray can, made by Semour, Hi-Tech Engine COATING (doesn't tell you what is really is, could be ceramic.
Yes all the stamped steel engine parts are painted gloss black, except for the air cleaner which was painted with Ford Argent Silver, also sold at Mac's and many other resto parts suppliers.

I've seen road draft tubes on ebay. There should be cheaper places to buy one.

Example color, same paint different lighting, photo 2 is slightly more representative of this particular color...

Here's a link to a page with a few color lists by year and vehicle line. It's not complete and I don't know where the info came from...

Ford Red. Most I've seen look more red than orange, but I've seen a few that look more like Chevy Orange. The consensus is Ford Red, at least for 55-57 Thunderbirds.

I have a road draft tube off a 55 club sedan you can have. It had a pcv valve in the top hose fitting and the bottom of the tube is cut cut straight instead of at a 45 degree cut. easy to change back. get to me your address and I will send it to you.
Cheers Jim

What year did Ford delete the holes for road draft tubes on the Y blocks?
Thanks again for all the help.

The T-Bird engines with Y-block had a blanking plate where the hole is at the front driver side of the engine, but they added a tube in the back that wrapped around and terminated in the rear of the valley pan. All Y-blocks had positive crankcase ventilation. Y-blocks were discontinued in cars in 1962 and 1964 was the last year for the truck 292 Y-block.
Emissions control devices were not employed till somewhere around 1970.
Federal mandate for auto manufacturers to install seat belts did not take effect until '64.
Oh, no, we didn't have air-bags, computerized ignition, fuel injection, bluetooth connections either? However did we survive ??? (sarc)

I'm not sure when it happened but I looked at a '64 pickup with its original block (as per the owner) that did not have a hole in the left front side of the casting for a road draft tube.

On this linked chart the latest block number is C2AE ('62) so maybe that's when they changed?
Unless Ford considered it a minor change only deserving a different last letter in the casting number.

actually Ford introduced a PVC in '61 on some engines. My '60 292 had road draft before I changed to PCV
