I went to Ohio to the Marmon Muster a couple of years back and rode around in a Marmon Rumble seat Coupe. After riding in that rumble seat all week, I made up my mind that my Model A had to have a rumble seat. So I bought a Coupe with a RS. Love it!!! Regards, John

My rumble is modified so it auto locks on open.

I took the basic principle from a camper van seat. although those jump seats in the back of SUV/s could give a clue , and borrow the idea off that.

I have lap/sash belts with the retractable sash attached to the upper corners of the lid.

Thanks for the offer, but I've already collected all the hardware I need to make the conversion.

OK, a full tank of gas in your lap, so so brakes, a carb prone to leaks close to the exhaust, not to worried about the rumble seat. ( our kids loved riding in the back, now in there late 20s they still do!)

If my wife would have caught me in the rumble seat with her sister I would think it would have resulted in a fatality. .........or two.

Come to think of it,I've never ridden in a rumble seat.I've owned 3 or 4,but I can't remember riding in one.I have two dogs that ride in it,but only one can fit in it at a time.I can remember when I was little having to do a chin-up to see over the dash rail.I usually rode standing up,looking through a windshield that one of my uncles made out of a peice of glass they brought home from the dump.

My now 25 year-old daughter has sat in the rumble seat quite a few times, and thinks it's so cool. I understand that some people are worried 'bout the safety aspect of riding in the back, or on a motorcycle, or on a bicycle, or when rollerskating, but I'm more worried about what to do when I'm being abducted by an alien race from outer space, find myself aboard their extraterrestrial space ship, have to go to the bathroom, but can't read the signs!

I gotta ride in my own rumble one day soon too.

Had car on road for 3 years.

Did the same when I restored a BSA with sidecar, took everyone else for a ride , but never got one myself before I sold it .

This ride is on the bucket list.

I have the aviator's leather helmet and goggles ready.

Kevin in NJ (and others): It's not much but I use a piece of round split foam that's made to insulate pipes on my rumble seat rails. Like I said, it's not much, but it could save some facial surgery on the grand kids. Oh, and I pray a lot when they're back there too (but they love it!).

If you miss the cast step plate and gouge my perfect original fender there will be a fatality.

Those foam noodles that kids play with in pools would offer good thick protection.

I've done hundreds if not thousands of miles in a dickey ( rumble) seat.
Nearly died from exposure in mid winter, slept in the back in a sleeping bag whilst others drove, and nearly thrown out when driving at speed on a side road and then crossed the main road without slowing down, all this in an English (Sunbeam) roadster with much less protection then a Model A, more sitting on rather than in it.
Great fun and although we don't own the car today, friends do, and the dickey seat is still very popular.
