FLathead shop
Hello, Does anyone know of a shop in CT that does work on Flathead motors? I have a block that is ready to be hot tanked and checked for cracks. Thanks.

Re: FLathead shop
not near you so i cant send you to one, but any engine shop can hot tank and check the block for leaks, these engines are not rocket motors, the hardest part of the rebuild is butt grinding the valves to set the clearance, but you can(heaven forbid) use adjustables for that, its a cast iron block and machined like any other block, leave a message for ken ct on here, start a new thread saying ATTENTION KEN CT he lives in ct and does the carbs for flatheads, i know he will be able to send you to some one close, tell him what you need

Re: FLathead shop
Whatever shops you guys deal with make certain they have the ability to pressure-test these castings, magnafluxing is NOT a 100% guaranty that the integrity hasn't been sacrificed.
It doesn't hurt to do both, but the pressure-test is first! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. All the most recent 8BA type blocks we've done here have come up good! Just the usual 2 cracks at the head bolt holes! These are non-issues. |

Re: FLathead shop
Eastwood is a little pricey but do great work. Earl's Engine up in Stafford is working mine.
Eastwood just did a '56 International Black Diamond 6 for my friend. They def know what they're doing. Last edited by GreenMonster48; 01-31-2013 at 01:01 PM. Reason: more info |

Re: FLathead shop
Yep, Eastwoods does pressure testing. Going to have the motor magnafluxed as well.
I hope its a good block. If not I didn't pay a lot for it. |
