Corvairs use manifold/engine cowling type heaters also. The one on my '63 Corvair puts out tons of heat but if there is the slightist oil leak into the cowling surrounding the engine the whole car gets stunk up when you use the heater. And mine stinks..... Corvair engines are completely encased with a cowling to regulate engine temperature. They have thermostats that open little doors at the back of the engine to regulate airflow. Probably most car guys know that already.

Why 12V? 6V works well. I have made the upgrades to 6V LED headlight bulbs and 6V LED Taillights (very bright lights) mainly for safety and visibility. I still operate a 6V Generator. Its work is easier with the LED lights

Original heaters were an option provided by the owner.
Some units would tend to be to noisy thou.
They keep you warm in the Winter...and they are oh so cool in the Summer.

There are no "weird questions" but there are weird people...ain't that weird?

I had a hot water heater in my '29 Model A standard coupe and it seldom had enough heat to warm the cab. Non-pressurized systems don't get warm quickly, or at all, in very cold weather, and that was the case with my coupe.

Chris - that's a pretty low bar. Damn near anything works better than the manifold heaters in old VWs! Says the owner of a lot of old VWs over the years (would still love to have a '65 ragtop, though).

Did the coupe have a functioning thermostat?

Yep, and maybe of more interest in this forum, the rare B-400 they stole.

I think the folks in the Sport Coupe pix (and maybe the non-Ford ones) are celebrities, but I can't remember who.

Yeah, Fairbanks is the one I couldn't remember. Mary Pickford is the woman in that pic and the one below it by herself. I believe she actually owned the car.

Anybody know who the people are in the non-Ford pix and what the cars are?

No thermostat, and I'm sure that was a contributing factor, but without pressurization, it only would get warm, not hot.
