Hi all, I recently bought a 30 roadster pickup. It has a Briggs body tag on the firewall below the Ford patent plate. I thought Briggs only built the high end bodys for Ford? Maybe the firewall came from another car?

thats not an original Briggs tag
can you read the number they stamped on it?

After I took the pic, I realized there was no number stamped on it, so it must be a repro. Still curious if Briggs made these?

I always thought that Ford made the open pickup bodies .

I would have said that too - except that Budd was later called in to do the steeltop closed cabs.

But this looking more like a recycled firewall - if not a desire to fill previously drilled holes with SOMETHING. Maybe a 1960s restoration?

Real or faux rivets on that plate? If real/original they're probably tubular. Well, maybe split rivets if put on homestyle.

Briggs did build the beds and bodies. They were a coach builder and built what was ordered.

this is an original Briggs zinc tag
i cant find a better one right now
briggs also made a tag just like this that mounted on the floor,and it was brass
but not painted yellow like the reproductions are
it was painted with a black background

It's worth noting that Tom's tag is from a '31 Cabriolet (68-C) based on the 138 prefix. I've certainly never heard of a Briggs built 76-B Open Cab. I've heard ONE claim of a Briggs built 82-B Closed Cab.

Thanks for all the info. This truck was last on the road in 1971 so I thought it was mostly original. I dont know why someone would add a tag if it didnt come with one originally.Also, looks like the tags were black, why would a repro be yellow ????
