Hey All, went out to the Carport early this morning to check to make sure that Ms. American's Brake Lights were still working. They were.

At 9:00 a.m., Ms. American pulled into the local Inspection Bay, and the Inspector asked for Proof of Insurance. Gave it to him. He checked it on the Computer. He then went through the whole routine, and finally asked how many miles were on the Odometer. I told him 599. That's what was on the Odometer (but that's the third time around). He printed out a form, signed it, handed it to me and said: “Seven bucks.”!

Gave him $7.00, said “Thank you.”, and drove to the County Courthouse, where for $75.50, a lady named Oralia gave Ms. American her 2022 Registration Sticker.

This was the quickest inspection the Old Gal has ever had, if we don't count all the time spent on getting the Old Gal ready for inspection. BTW, the Brake Lights are REALLY bright.

Whew!

Hey Mr 40C, well, the Old Gal was all set to pass. Everything worked exactly like it was supposed to.

Would like to mention something that might shed a little light on this Hydraulic Brake Light situation. This is just speculation, but the difference between the Switches that were gotten from O'Reilly's and the ones that Mr. K., recommended is that the ones that Mr. K., recommended activate at 45 PSI, and have found that the Standard Brand units from O'Reilly's activate at 60 to 90 PSI.

Also, in looking in the Ford and Mercury Shop Manual, there are two different places that the Hydraulic Switches are mounted. On a Manual Brake, it is mounted upright on the upper side of the outlet on a Master Cylinder. On a Power Brake it is mounted upside down on the under side of the outlet on the Master Cylinder.

The speculation is that on a Power Brake Master Cylinder, the Hydraulic Brake Fluid can get down into the Switch, where as on a Manual Brake Master Cylinder it cannot, and there is a bubble of air in the Switch.

This can lead to a conclusion that the 45 PSI unit is for a Manual Brake System, and the 60-90 PSI Switch is for a Power Brake System.

Whaddaya think?

Take care.
