Default 39 Ford CV trim difference

We've noticed this stainless trim difference on
more than one occasion with different cars. Anyone
know why there is a difference in the length of the side trim?

Another Ford conundrum... Perhaps a change between early and late production???

No design change whatsoever. Incorrect trim, which appears to be (correctly) for a coupe, is on the green car.
Photo attached herein is the correct trim.
