Default Coupe Rear Spare Tire Carrier Problem

Problem is - The upper right corner of my rear spare tire carrier (30 coupe) cracked and broke off with the wheel mounting stud in it.

Question is - is the carrier made out of cast iron or cast steel and how weldable is it for making a repair ? - or should I just look for another used one at a swap meet ?

Thanks for any advice

Your carrier is malleable iron and can be welded but someone else should chime in on the best method for optimal results. With that said, good carriers are not difficult to find and are generally quite inexpensive.
