Considering buy new fenders for 30 coupe... questions
I know the issues with the front fenders and have read Brent in 10-uh-c's PDFs and since I cannot find a decent original set to start with I'm really leaning toward buying new.
Here are my questions: Is it correct that only one place reproduces steel front fenders? Are there any issues with aprons or rear fenders? Do any of you have suggestions on who I could get the best price through? That said, I'm shopping around. I'm looking for advice on who to go through. I am in Utah so shipping from the east may rule things out, unless a place drop ships. Also, any other advice for a fender newbie would be appreciated. Thanks, Brent |

have you tried Berts in Denver? from what ive heard the 28-29 are an OK repop but still require alot of fitting while the 30-31's are a nighmare but workable....
I would keep looking.

Re: Considering buy new fenders for 30 coupe... questions
I have a pair of Albrect 30-31 coupe fenders.
They fit well and are pretty close. Here is what I did to make them closer. The bead line is angled out. The flat edge of the bead line should be 90 degrees to the floor and inline from the front bracket bolt to the rear bracket bolt. I used a tool I made up that I call the can opener to adjust the edge. Fairly fast to do. While on the bead, the serrations are not as deep and crisp. You have to be careful with paint build up. The doublers that are spot welded at the front edge and the apron cut are made out of thinner gauge metal then original and not as well formed. The apron cut has a different shape from the factory. I tried to use a factory one from a bad fender, but it did not fit. I took advantage and put rust preventative on the piece and made the area fit better before I welded it back in place. The doubler at the rear of the running board is way thinner and a dead give away that you have a repro fender. I put on originals which also gave me the proper holed for the bolts. If you are putting on a right side tail light, you can not just make a pattern up from the left fender and move it over. I used the pattern and got the bracket in the ball park, but it was not right. I used a long striaght edge (cheap from Lowes) to set the brackets parallel and inline. I also used original brackets. Of course, you need the body on the frame in the correct position and you need the running boards in the correct position. I discuss this on my website in the link below. |
