51 Ford F-1 pickup with a Dana 44. How many spline axels does it have?

I think that would be a retro-fit axle. You should get a picture and post it on FTE (Ford truck enthusiasts) in the '48-51 group. Usually about 375 guys on there at any given time with your vintage of truck.

For Pete"s sake, it's not a "retrofit". The thing still has the original brakes on it

According to ringpinion.com, it is 19 spline. Not my business, but no need to jump ugly with GB. He was only trying to help.

You could check with chuck mantiglia at chuckstrucks. He no doubt has been into many of these axles

Okay, I apologize. I was trying to avoid pulling an axel, and then reassembling it, and pulling it apart again when all the parts come.

Early Dana 41 & 44 have the 19-spline axle shafts. This includes 1/2 ton F1 pickups, Mercury cars & station wagons, Ford station wagons, and purpose built police cars. Ford used them for many years but the later ones have a lot more splines.

Dana 41 was used for 1948/49/ & early 1950 F1. The Dana 44 came along for later 1950 through end of F1 production. Even some of the later F100 pickups used them but they were a bit different than the F1 types if I remember correctly. All of them use the same basic rear brake set up way up into the last of the 5 X 5.5" bolt pattern.
