Default Stop leak for hydraulic jacks

I see that Barr's has stop leak in their hydraulic jack fluid. Couldn't find it at NAPA,. What is it that swells seals that you put in power steering fluid and other fluids. Is it brake fluid or ATF ? Can't remember. Thank you.

ATF is commonly used in hydraulic systems. If you talking about swelling the seals brake fluid would do that but there's a cost to it. It will also cause the seals to harden and lose the effectiveness sooner. Basically its a short term bandaid as with most of the stop leak products.

If your comfortable taking it apart just replace the seals. If you can't get a seal kit for it you should be able to to match the seals at a local industrial supply.

Brake fluid will swell them. But the only correct fix is rebuild the jack. But some rebuilds cost more then a new replacement depending on the make.

I found the seal kit for the jack, so in the short term I will stop leak, and then rebuild it later. Thank you Fordbarners.

I would be afraid to use any jack with a Stop leak additive.
Just my luck it would come crashing down.

Lucas has a stop leak for power steering. My daughter has postponed the inevitable by stopping the leak in her power steering gear.
