Engine value.
I know this is a loaded question. I am going to take a look at an engine. No knowledge of internals. I do know it has been driven regularly over the past eight years. Only pulled four a rat rod build. I’ll be able to hear it run. It is offered complete. It could literally be dropped into a car and driven off. What’s a good range of a place to start negotiating
Thank you and merry Christmas |

Re: Engine value.
I just had my engine over hauled, the fellow did a good job. It cost me dearly, how ever I have put 5000 miles on it this summer and not a bit of trouble.
I just got an email from one of the Model A guys in our area saying he had a rebuilt engine for sale $2800 Gerry Allen Birch Bay WA |

Re: Engine value.
What’s posted makes a good range 4-6
Tranny & bell housing would be a plus He’s building a rat rod so may not need them |

Re: Engine value.
$400-$600 sounds kind of lowballing. I would think a bunch more. Just my opinion...nobody get mad.

Re: Engine value.
A lot of unknowns but a friend just bought one running on an engine stand for $600. Both him and seller were happy. No transmission attached but there was starter and generator.

Re: Engine value.
I recently purchased a non running unknown internal condition engine for a price that both I and the seller thought was reasonable. I just sent him some additional money along with a hand written note letting him know that after opening it up I found that it was in better shape than either one of us has expected.
I figured that this was the right thing to do.

Re: Engine value.
It’s kind of like the mail order bride. You don’t know what your getting until it’s been run for awhile.
I would assume the worst and hope for something better than that. What did the car look like the engine came out of? That should tell you a lot about where you could be going. Enjoy. |

Re: Engine value.
Been on the bad end of an unknown from some dubious boys. The great Unknown is always a possibility. This motor was crap, massaged.

Re: Engine value.
If you can take it for a spin, even around the grounds, or let it run on an engine stand then got for it. The $500 is a deal at that point. Getting an engine that is rebuilt is major bucks these days. I know I have a bundle in mine.

Re: Engine value.
Eyeball the crankshaft end-play. Pry back and forth with engine not running (of course).

Re: Engine value.
And that WAS the right thing to do! That engine will appreciate your respect for it too.
