Lightbulb Alternator...Generator

Does someone make/sell an original looking generator that is actually an alternator? 6 Volt Positive ground. Thank you.

Does he have different prices? Any reason we could not post the prices here and save the guy dozens of price request phone calls?

HI Mike

I just paid $400 for a unit.

These are made to order he has none in stock.

You can't see from the outside that it is an alternator.

spdway1,
On my sold '30 with a 30 amp alt. with built in regulator, advantages were: battery never overcharged or undercharged, headlights brighter, horn sounded better, it started quicker, No more of that RR-RR- RR, started quickly almost like 12 volt & I RARELY had to add battery water. The 30 AMP alternator was totally sufficient for my car. It once sat for 4 months without a cut- off switch or a trickle charger & a 6 year old battery & started as if it had been run just yesterday. That "BLOWS" the theory that a 1 wire alternator will "drain" your battery! Hope this helps. Also, I ran everything on a 30 amp GM blade type circuit breaker instead of those flimsy add on fuse holders with a 20 or a 30 amp fuse. I heard a friend ask his wife, "Honey, do you have another fuse in your purse?" Some try to run a 20 amp fuse in those, it ain't enough, takes a 30 amp, "SLOW-BLOW fuse! Some CHEAP fuses are defective. Some poster recently discovered some defective ones he bought at Harbor Freight, after spending lots of time tryin' to find where his loss of power was! Sorry I type so looong, just tryin' to help. Always remember that a cheap test light is your "BEST FRIEND" Second only to your Dog! Bill W. (Same alternator WILL run Halogen bulbs well)

Bill you are absolutely correct, a GM 1-wire alternator (10si) will NOT drain your battery. Best thing ever invented

tbird, tbird, sounds like an echo,
You're absolutely right! My '29 came with a rebuilt gen. & a new cut out with a regulator in it. I bought a 1,000 cranking amp Optima, (800 cold cranking amp) I'll give it a try before I consider an alternator, as I'm trying to keep this car reasonably stock for a NEW driving experience. Bill W.

I bought a Power House Generator from Ron Rude. He sent a electronic cut out with the Power House. It not only looks beatiful and correct but also works great, No need to change to an alternator for me.

Thanks for the reply Joop.
The 10si is good old analog work horse but never looked right to me. A Lester #12190 is a very small Nippon Denso alt. They can be made one wire. The 12190 is 30 amps and 45 amps is available.
Here is a link to the alternator. They are not expensive.

Russ Evans is the guy to go to if you want an original looking generator. He makes his alternators from an original generator body. He used an original cut out that I sent to him. The cut out doesn't have to be useable, it's just for looks. I have 3 of Russ' generator/alternators (negative ground) and they work great.

[QUOTE=P.S.;515823]UPDATE: Received a response a few minutes ago.

"A Gener-Nator for your Model "A" is $995.00 exchange plus shipping with a 3 year warranty."

He sent a couple pictures too, and they do look amazing. Seems like a nice guy.

Will have to ponder such a lofty a purchase though.

Dear Santa...I've been a good ole' boy, took the trash out without bein' asked, remembered everyone's birthdays! waxed Momma's car, oh! and don't forget that heavy GOLD neck chain I bought her! & I Rememmbered T.P. in that aisle that I never go down!
I REALLY need that Altergenenermurator so's my battery don't go KAPUT in traffic & I might get run over by a punk, trying to learn the new features of his I-Pod-5. Then, who'd take out the trash? Sincerely, P.S.

Local battery store that also sells new and used alternators and starters, will take a rebuilt 12V alternator and convert it to 6V, positive ground for $100.

Had a powerhouse generator on the last Model A, nothing but problems with it. A lot of the problem for repairing it was me.

Today, I wouldn't own a Model A without an alternator on it. There is absolutely no hassles with it and the headlights work great.
