Default U-Joint Inspection for Vibration

https://youtu.be/KGXtCB5AoG8

This seems like way too much side to side play in the u-joint based on what I’ve seen with more modern parts. It is still pretty tight when purely twisting the u-joint.

If this is normal, what’s the next spot to look for a driveline vibration that doesn’t seem to be related to which gear I am in? Something at the rear end or torque tube?

Thanks.

Looks pretty normal to me as long as there is not axial play. Was the retaining bolt tight? There is a bearing in the torque tube just aft of the speedo gear you might check while you are there.

Yeah, the nut holding the u-joint was tight. I’ll look at the torque tube bearing next. Thanks.

Have you checked your tires and wheels for problems
Another thought is an axle bent at the end, outside the bearing. It would act like a bent wheel.
