NOS parts

Heads up for you NOS parts fans. A few days age, you may be interested to know, Bob Jones, who ran Dennis Carpenter NOS for years, retired. I was told today that the NOS building is now locked up.

I enjoyed chatting with Bob and cruising through the vast NOS collection in the Dennis Carpenter tent at Hershey every year. He will be sorely missed by everyone. I don’t think they will find a successor to Bob’s with his knowledge of Ford NOS, plus his list of contacts from who he purchased estates with NOS stuff..

If Dennis Carpenter decides not continue the NOS business without Bob, Mike Driskell who has been getting NOS stuff from Bob, could possible take the inventory.

I asked the women who answers DC's phone if they were going to Fall Carlisle ? She said it's all very fluid at this point.

Would they have the NOS parts like at Hershey without Bob to ID and price them ?

That would be about the best outcome possible (for EVERYONE) if Michael were to end-up with the inventory! DD

Right, if Michael were made of money, but likely as with most of us, he is not. Equally likely those currently managing the affairs of Dennis Carpenter's enterprises are not likely to give Michael the deal of a lifetime.

Bob Jones is a dear mentor and friend of mine since I've been in the hobby and I wish him the best!

David is correct, I can assure the chances of my little business acquiring the inventory is likely out of my very minimal reach.

We tend to think the great ones will be there for us whenever we need them forever. I don't know the state of Dennis's health at the moment, but wish him the best. One of the best people in the hobby for sure, and service to his community to boot.

I heard through the grapevine that Dennis's successors were not interested in messing with NOS parts. So who knows where it will go from here. Lawrie idea is a great one, but how do we manage something like that even if were possible to unite everyone ?
Other NOS guys probably wouldn't be interested in building their inventory as they are getting along in years.

Start a GoFundMe on the GoFundMe website to collect donations to aid in the purchase. The link could be posted on the barn, hamb, etc. Either that or seek private investors. There's gotta be someone with some coin interested in this venture.

I'm pretty sure with the GoFundMe, if the minimum amount required is not met then everyone gets their money back. It may be worth a shot. A dollar figure required would be the first step.

So bob Jones is retired form selling parts but he has a huge inventory of NOS parts. Now what? Considering where this hobby is going who knows how secure an investment this is. He could give Michael the parts and get paid a percentage of everything Michael sells.
Not too many people in a position to lay out that kind of cash right now.
On the other hand, just because 3rd gen has the knowledge do they have the manpower? Warehouse space?
I'm sure there are plenty of holes in my idea but sometimes ya need to just throw something out there snd it gets other wheels turning to come up with a workable plan.

On the subject of NOS parts, does anyone know what color they put on sheet metal parts, (fenders and such) for 1932

Taking over a huge inventory is fulltime job for a while sorting/labeling/storing.
Takes money, time and storage.
Another way would be coming up with a number for it and getting so many years to pay it off...

Red oxide primer wasn't it. The final colors varied.

All the genuine NOS 33-34 fenders I have had were dipped in black paint . Complete with the appropriate runs .

Guy 1 obviously has good reason for asking legitimate question!

Guy 3 obviously knows his sh-tuff and clears matters authoritatively with FACTUAL, first-hand info!


I've just never been able to understand why some feel the need to confuse matters with mis-information....when you can just sit "this one" out. Good stuff, David! DD

As a general rule, black for stampings, green for engine/transmission castings, and black for forgings and non-engine/transmission castings. As with the '33-'34 sheet metal, they were generally dipped, but some care was given so that the runs were confined to the side out of view when installed. Some body sheet metal and wheels could be ordered in the original variety of colors.

Agree and the runs are SUBSTANTIAL sometimes but as DavidG mentions they are usually on the inside .

Anyone with an original paint 34 fender
[ not black ] will see black under the top color and no primer under the black . Same on front inner fenders and gas tank cover .

The RR fender that I got with Mikes car was Coach Maroon over black [ with a couple huge runs inside ] under the maroon .
No primer under the black and it had never been on a car other than the time Mike had it on his car .

It like the other 3 33-34 sedan NOS RR fenders I've had over the years started life as a standard .

This is VERY disappointing news!!! I just got my block back from my rebuilder who did the initial re-bore and I picked it up until my parts arrived. I talked with them a couple of weeks back and nobody even gave a hint! Was going to order on Monday and now I'm buggered...

He offfered very good prices in my estimation and NOS to boot. First LeBaron Bonney and now this; aaaargh!!!!

Like many others, I have known Bob Jones for decades. I always made a point of going by and visiting with him at Carpenter's if I was passing through the Charlotte area. It was always a worthwhile visit, he always asked how my wife was doing, and I even got out of there a few times without buying anything. The NOS area of Carpenter's was a gathering place for quite a few regulars the day or so before the big Charlotte swap meet. It was the only time some of us got to see each other that year. For his sake, I am pleased that he is retiring. As with the rest of us he is not getting any younger and there is a lot to be said for stepping away from working at some point.
