Car of $10 Bill
The car on the old $10 bill has always been a little special for old car buffs. It is offically refered to as a composite of cars at the time when the plate was engraved in 1927. The question becomes what car does it most resemble. Some say a Hupmobile based on the front bumper appearance, others say a Model A Fordor based on the radiator shell. I am thinking most of us would lean toward Model A. Watcha think ?

Re: Car of $10 Bill
The Model A would not have been for sale until the end of 1927, correct? Would the plate engraver have had the opportunity to see the Model A prior to its release to the public?

Re: Car of $10 Bill
I was sorry when they dropped that image from the $10 bill.

Re: Car of $10 Bill
It's a LINCOLN sedan.

Re: Car of $10 Bill
It is a composite, but yes, you can see familiar features. The bumper does look Hupmobile, but the fenders are too round. '27 Lincoln make sense, since it was the forerunner of the Model A, and has a little bit of the "widow's peak" in the radiator shell. It also has pretty large cowl lights, which I have never seen on either. I know that you can't quite tell, because it is so small and you mostly see it from the front, but something about it feels like it has wooden spoke wheels.
Just one man's observations. I do love it regardless. Ken

Re: Car of $10 Bill
I heard many years ago that it was a Hupmobile. Even before I even knew what a Hupmobile was! Given the size, I am not overly surprised that the details arent 100% correct.

Re: Car of $10 Bill
I vote Lincoln, yeah I can see that!
Our money looked it's best when they had American Indian portraits and Liberty on the coins and paper money. THAT was class. Those were days when our money was artistic, nice to look at. And the Buffalo nickel. The Walking Liberty Half was the one of the most beautiful American coins minted. Teddy Roosevelt as President was a driving force behind shelving what he considered 'boring' American money in his day. Today's American money?? Yuck. The quarters look like Chucky Cheese tokens. Put the Eagle back on the reverse enough is enough. Take a look at this 1899 $5 bill and you will agree. http://www.antiquemoney.com/old-five...r-certificate/ |

Re: Car of $10 Bill
I'm just quoting from Jalopnik . . . .
"The largest car represented on the 1928-2006 ten-dollar bill reverse is based directly on a 1927 (1928 model year)-1931 four-door Ford Model A"

Re: Car of $10 Bill
To me, it looks like a generic picture of a '20s vehicle.
