Loctite is an anaerobic sealant, it cures when no air is present. Loctite will hold torque, mechanical locking hardware doesn't.
Caterpillar determined years ago lock washers were incapable of actually locking a bolt,post #4 was CAT's conclusion. They mandated hardware be torqued ,removing the stretch from a bolt on assembly placed it in tension,with a hard washer for support. I worked on an engine rebuild team for part of my field service training, on assembly every fastener was torqued to spec,even bolts that retained line clamps,everything. |
