Default Ford Hood Latch Spring

The hood release on my 1950 Ford Custom does not work correctly because the large spring above the spike with the knob on the end is weak and will not push the hood up so the safety latch is activated. My question is where do I buy a spring that will lift the hood. Or is there another way to solve my problem.

Don't know where to get the spring but the safety latch does not depend on the upward movement of the hood to activate.
The safety latch is spring loaded and the moment the hood is lowered into the lock position the safety latch automatically engages until manually released.
If the safety latch spring is broken or missing it will not engage as it should.
The large spring is just a lift assist spring that lifts the hood so that you have enough room to get your fingers under the hood to lift it.

51 Merc-CC, please reread my message. My problem is not the safety catch. The large spring is weak and does not release the hood so the safety latch will catch. Thanks anyway.

Perhaps you should have left the safety latch out of the equation because if the safety latch is working properly it will work even if the large spring is not there.

I solved the problem by installing an auxiliary coil spring over the spike with the knob but smaller than the large coil spring, that is inside the large coil spring. Now the hood pops up and the safety latch catches it like it was designed from the gitgo. Thanks to all!
