Default Mystery ignition switch plate

I took the ignition switch off of my 1934 BB truck yesterday to inspect/clean/replace it. I was surprised to have a small metal plate fall off onto the floorboard when I carefully removed the switch plate and case, with the brush inside. The plate appears to go between the bottom of the column and the switch case. What is this small plate for? My 1940 heavy truck does not have this plate and I can not find a picture, diagram, or description of it on line or in all the usual places (parts houses). Thanks

Here's one page of an assembly drawing, provided by Don Rogers, for a '35-'36 column drop. There is a small rectangular plate shown that mounts between the cloumn drop casting and the sheet metal ignition swich box. This might be the same or similar to the plate used in your 34BB. I'm not 100% sure why this plate is there, but I would suggest putting yours back in place. Maybe someone else will clarify why it's there.

That plate has a folded tab which goes in the slot of the back of the lever. The inner mechanism moves up and down when you turn the lock cyl. That keeps the lever in a stationary position because that cylindrical mechanism slides in the lever body.Hope I explained it okay.
