Default What Happened to my Blowby?

I have a 1934 V-8 which I got running about a year ago after it was parked in a garage for about 20 years. I now run it an average of about once or twice a month. At first there was quite a bit of blowby exiting through the oil filler tube at the rear of the engine when I shut it off. I did not worry about it because I thought some blowby was normal for these old V-8s. The last half dozen times I ran it I have not seen any blowby. The only thing I can think of is that I changed motor oil brands about the time of its disappearance.

What happened to my blowby? Did the rings re-marry themselves up to the cylinder walls or some such thing? Do I have a problem?

Thanks - MGG

Not sure exactly why, and yes, it probably is ring related, but I had the same thing with an old Morris Minor I resurrected a few years ago. The more I drove it, the better it got.

Mart.

Absence of blow-by is not an indicator of a problem.

I meant that to be kinda tongue-in-cheek. It seems like a good "problem" to have.

Mine sat for years before I bought it. It smoked and stank when I ran it the first few times. (Exhaust and blowby) Now that I have about 6-700 miles on it, its cleared up a good bit also.

Up until 1953 or 1954, dealers used to carry blow-by odor for those who missed it.

check and see if a mouse made a nest at sometime or for some reason the ventilation tube became blocked, might save a big oily mess on the driveway!!

Ditto Here!....mine also had blow by after first starting in the beginning but now the more it is run the less I see. I think it was ring related after sitting all those years.

I did my first oil change last month. Car had set for years before I bought it. I cut open the filter just for grins. There was no metal in it but scary amount of sludge in the bottom. I fugure the HD oil is cleaning the sludge out and leaving it in the filter.
