Default Engine Paint Color

Morning all ... Just picked up this 31' Tudor .. (my first non High perf era car) ..

The car needs some deep cleaning after a loooong nap and I am looking to repaint parts as they are fixed/replaced/refreshed.

Looking to keep the car as original as possible and retain its patina(ish) finish ..

Unfortunately I am unable to find an authoritative source on the color used to paint the engine.

Any insight on the color and where to purchase will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

-Mike

I like Snyder's engine paint. Available in both rattle can and brush. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword

Where are you more locally? Maybe someone can make a suggestion if they knew your location...

Never have used Bill Hirsch products but they have good reviews on other forums. They come in both rattle can and brush on cans. IIRC from when I had my Model A in the mid '60's there are many versions of Ford Green. This is what Hirsch lists but it may or may not be the true and correct color for a Model A.

There are a lot of versions of the engine green, but in my experience the differences are subtle unless you're at a show or a restoration shop and looking at six cars lined up next to each other. I've heard that Hirsch is the gold standard, but you pay more for it.

Do a quick once over and I am sure you will come up with a list of parts needed. That of course will affect overall shipping costs. Shipping one item is expensive. Make sure you get enough paint in the first order.

Get the brush on paint from Snyder's, looks better than spray and easier to use.

I have used Rust-oleum Gloss Black, Navy Blue and Hunter Green.
Mix equally.

Chambr - Mac's Auto Parts (Ecklers) has a showroom in Titusville FL, not too far from where you are in Lake Mary. You could get a trip to the coast and pick up your paint at the same time.

I have similar problem, but engine has some rust. Do I use rust dissolver or similar product to take some rust away or just wirebrush it before painitng.

I used a small Harbor Frieght steel wire brush, came in a 3 pack, steel, nylon and brass brushes. After wiping the engine off I used a little laquer thinner to prep for painting. I used a small HF sponge brush for painting.
