Default Fuel pumps ?

About at the end of my rope here. I finally got a good Holly working without leaks but noticed the fuel pump was seeping on the seam so a good time for rebuild ? Bought two new kits and an extra diaphragm for another pump. Very carefully redid both glass bowl pumps and took them apart more than once to see if I had screwed up someplace and neither of them will pull gas even though it is right in the end of the line at the rubber hose connection. (I can pull it easy with a suction ) Went and got a brand new regular extra spare from the other car and that does not pull gas either ! Rubber connector hose was bad with cracks and a new one came todays mail, still nothing. Three push rods all measure 8 7/8" long. Am I remembering correctly that years ago people used to install a "pill" on the top of push rods to get a bit more lift ? Any help appreciated ?

Try to suck on the discharge port and see if you can pull a vacuum that does not leak. You can put soapy water on it and blow in the inlet port to check for leaks.

it seems to me that there were people on here that had trouble getting the gas bowl to seal. Possible solution?
