Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
I am restoring a late 30 Vicky Leatherback and in the process I must have lost a picture of the disasembling and I dont know where this angled bar should be located.
One pic is after sanblasting, the other pic showing the angles and is after epoxy priming. the bar is 41 inches long X 1.5 inches wide. and is approx. 14 gauge steel I think it belongs at the very rear at the ends of the long wood sills, possibly to attach the body to the wood. I need to know if anyone can identify where and how it mounts. |

Re: Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
I have looked my 31 Steelback over and can't find that part. At first I thought it was the header interior molding but I don't think it is long enough and it is difficult to see the profile in your pictures. Mine does not have a piece like that across the rear where the body meets the wood. Can you post a better picture of the profile and recheck the total length?

Hi Tom, I'm not sure about the piece but Norris had mentioned that my car has pieces similar to the Vicky style. I'll try and check my header tonight to see if it matches closely.

Hi Tom, Ed here (I sent you the wood Subrails) The part looks like the Header above the windshield. I can't seem to be able to send a pic on the barn but will send pic. by email. ED

I have worked on and restored a number of Victoria`s, and I do not remember seeing that part on a Victoria.

The angled piece is not from the header area as its just too thick, approx. 14 gauge and all the rusted pieces from my header were accounted for. The piece is exactly 41 inches long but my camera is not able to take any better pictures. JW: I know you have worked on a lot of Vicky's and if you have never came upon this part before makes me wonder if it actually belongs to the car. Could be that someone just tossed this part into the vicky while it sat in the bush with 5 other model A wrecks in the bush where it came from. On the other hand I'm wondering if the angled part was actually part of the very early car. here are some of the details on the car as I bought it: Its a leatherback and its been sitting in the Canadian wilderness bush for 47 years, has original 1930 type splash shields and running boards, missing front bumper, but had Canadian bumperettes on rear bumpers, no manufacturers data tag, slant windshield frame, caged nuts on gas tank filler piece, D-nuts , very first prototype inner rear tire bracket support (no upper support bar to the wood) When I joined the Victoria association I was told my 1930 splash shield must have been a replacement, now that makes no sense and I'm told my inner spare tire bracket was never installed on production models, but since I'm in Canada this means I'm a minority and I m left with the impression that my data doesnt count. just my .02 cents Tom |

Re: Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
As far as the replacement parts, is it possible that some of those were optional dealer installed items? I've seen many model A cars that appear to be a mixture of parts from different years but sometimes the early 30's cars still use the leftover parts from the stock available from '29.

The attached is one of the images regarding the header piece I thought it was. It has the rear view mirror attached to it (sorry for the poor quality but it's the best I could get for now)

Steve(Heneste) I'm sure Henry used up all his 30 splash shields before he started using the longer 31's. I was under the impression that the car was American made but the rear bumperettes threw me for a loop. Just not enough other details to tell where it was made

Re: Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
Tom, most low production bodies were assembled at the "CANADIAN TOP & BODY CORP. LMT'D TILBURY ONTARIO"
My 32 Victoria was assembled there and came with a brass body tag mounted on the floor cross sill. So I imagine the body panels, or body shell arrived from US to be completed here, then the completed body shipped to a Ford assembly plant. Maybe take a metal detector back into the woods where you found it and dig up the brass tag! Ted |

Ted:
Thats a great idea, naturally I'll wait for the darn snow to melt. I know exactly where it sat in the bush. I'll put that on my bucket list Thanks tom |

Re: Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
Tom,
I believe that bar fits inside the rear seat bottom. It acts as a support for the bottom spring. The three holes on the ends are how it attaches to the seat frame.I recently had my seats rebuilt and that piece was missing. I had one made. I have attached pictures of the piece installed in a different Vicki. I hope this helps. Jim |

jimmiej you hit it out of the park. I do now remember seeing that angle before on a earlier Victoria rear seat bottom.

Re: Vicky owners - can you identify this angled bar
I have learned a lot on this site. That coupled with rebuilding a Vicki that was disassembled when I bought it has forced my limited knowledge. I am about ready to post a picture of 4 brackets that I am unable to identify.

Here are some photos of my early Steel-Back rear seat bottom to reinforce jimmiej's answer to the mysterious angle.
