Default 1932 to 1936 Fan Belts

Can anybody tell me the correct tension for the Fan belt on the 1932 to 1936 Ford V8 Engines. If you have too much tension it will wear out the bushes in the waterpumps and generator.

One inch of total deflection checked midway between the generator and water pump.

Here's a drawing showing what Kube just said.

If you re-read the posts, it's not exactly what "Kube" said. It probably doesn't make much difference, but the span between the generator and water pump is shorter then between the crankshaft and water pump. When I had a "pump-in-head" engine, I checked mine the same as "Kube".

Don's drawing is from one of the '32-'34 Service Bulletins and applicable to engines with water pumps mounted on the heads. Given his specialty, perhaps Mike was thinking of a '37 plus engine with block-mounted water pumps.

You guys are correct of course. My thinking is based (too much so it appears) on '37 '41. Thanks for the proverbial slap. I need that occasionally.

I'm not sure about the 32 generator but Ford designed the generator bearings to work with a fan in the years that used it. This changed after the fan moved farther down.

I had an old friend, long gone, who had a saying--"Everyone has a right to their own stupid opinion." Here is my stupid opinion. For my type of driving I would rather err on the bit too loose rather than too tight. The 2 water pumps and small draw on the generator do not seem to require it very tight, for me. New belts usually loosen up some with use. Best to keep an eye on them and re-tighten when necessary.
