Default 46 SD convertible

I purchased a 69a 76b from the son of a car dealer from Botgota Columbia who’s father had a collection of 25 cars
It appears to be all original except the aluminum heads that I put on. I have updated the electrical convertible top brakes and misc The exterior appears to be original
The odometer is in kilometers and the seller says the 28,000 km is correct
Is there somewhere I can research the history of this car
Vin is 99A1240839

Researching the history of a vehicle is usually a futile effort unless you have some past documentation from prior owners (old registration slips, etc.). The state DMVs will be of no help due to right to privacy laws. If you take the car to car shows you might get lucky if someone recognizes the car.

99A, Mercury ? Being from Bogota Columbia will make it even more challenging.

Deuce. What do you mean by "99A, Mercury?" My '46 Super Deluxe Coupe S/N starts with 99A.

99A is a Mercury vehicle prefix for 1939. Maybe the 99A carried on further reference wise I don't know.Others might chime in ? In the V8 Club roster book '46 Ford vehicle prefix is 69A.

He specifically stated 69A - 76B, 1946 Convertible which is correct as is a 99A serial number.

Finding a history without previous registrations or owner records is a futile search as TJ has already stated.

The vin falls in the 1946 range 99A650280-99A1412709, so your 99A1240839 falls to the later part of the 1946 run of vehicles. If the car has the original glass the bus may provide additional assitance as to when it was produced. the latter to the left of the Ford insignia is the month (a=Jan, B=Feb hence A-L), the two letters to the right of the Ford is the year
(A=1, B=2 hence letters A thru H, so 46 would be DF. That will tell you when the glass was made, usually close to vehicle build date. Also, cars intended for overseas sales had a tag on the passenger side firewall with the serial number. I had a 1946 Convertible that had a speedometer in kilometers and originally shipped to Denmark so badged. I hope this might help you.
