Re: 1946 - 1948 Convertible frame structure
Thanks Karl , have not seen that detailed picture before , I can see I may have some wrong bolt hardware installed in my top frame assembly.
Do you have any pictures showing the extra brackets where the body cowl bolts to. I think mine are there just trying to confirm what they should look like. On the X member on my frame it is welded & the side opening at the welds , the oval opening is staggered at the weld , looks factory wondering if others have noticed that on their frame. I have read that their are 3 different type of X members for these frames. |

19Fordy thanks for the link , in the pictures trying to understand if the extra bracket is the top one or bottom one or the convertible only has one that is a heavier bracket , hoping to see a picture of what the bracket could be to confirm my frame has it. I will send some pm's to hamb members

To my knowledge the extra mounts are on the convertible body, bottom of cowl, inside and bolts to side of frame. Also the front running board bracket is different on convertibles, longer,Has a bolt that turns up against the bottom of cowl to adjust, tip etc for more alignment adjustments .the Frames are all the same for mounding the bodies

Re: 1946 - 1948 Convertible frame structure
Thanks flathead48 , I can check for those mounts. The gaps & door alignment is good on the car , no door sagging , so I probably have all the convertible related mounts & brackets required. I kept reading about the convertible frames being different & looking under the car really didn't know what I should see different hence why I was hoping for pictures.

Re: 1946 - 1948 Convertible frame structure
The open cars have an "X" to brace to keep the frame from twisting. They also have a bracket on the frame below the rear of the cowl. This is for the adjustment of the cowl.
Bodies for convertibles were made by a vendor, not Ford. Service manuals are available from C&G (800/266-0470). I use V-222 for convertibles because the show intricate assemblies such as the top irons. Ask for their catalog. The section on books is essential reading. |
