Canadian Model A Info
Gents, I was perusing the site last night and noticed a thread that had a sheet of engine numbers, and the corresponding day/month/year the engine was produced.
So naturally I took a look at my project A that I have a long history / short ownership of and found out why my 1929 roaster has an early 1928 column in it. It's because I think my 29 is actually a very early 1928. However, there is a fly in the ointment. My engine number is CA22856*, with the C because the car is Canadian I'm guessing. Is there any way to find out more information on the production of Canadian Model A's, the engine numbers etc? |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
Vince has engine numbers on his site. Yours looks like July 1928.

Re: Canadian Model A Info
Does your VIN number on your registration match your engine number? That was how they were normally registered. If it's different the engine was probably changed at some time. The list of engine numbers can also be found at www.cmaff.com

I have a bill of sale so registration is on the list. I haven't checked if the frame number matches the engine number but I'm assuming it does unless the engine was changed before it went out into the woods. |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
My Canadian '28 Tudor is engine *CA50154* and was built in September, 1928 according to the documents. It has many of the parts one would find on an "early" build - equalizer brakes with no separate parking brake system, left side cowl parking brake lever, multi-disc clutch, etc. My understanding is the Canadian frames do not have serial numbers stamped on them. Mine doesn't. Mine also does not have any numbers on the upper firewall. There is a number on the sub-frame cross rail in front of the seat indicating the frame was made at the Rouge Plant.

Meteorpete, can you tell me in more detail where you see the number on the sub-frame cross rail? I took a look on mine and don't see one. I also don't have the numbers on
the upper firewall, but do have the parking brake lever in front of the shifter. |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
You may be able to get a copy of the original registration from ICBC. I have the microfilm copy for one of my cars. The engine number is also shown as the serial number and they assigned a unique registration number. Search for "vehicles wth no record of registration" on their website.

The body info for my car was on the top of the steel sub-frame that goes left to right just in front of the driver's seat. |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
Yes they did come through, thanks for these. My engine was produced July 1928.
I took another look at both frame rails and the crossmember, no letters or numbers that I could see. Could have been lost during the refurbishing of the frame. |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
But Ford Canada stopped stamping the engine number on the frame about the middle of 1928 so looking for the serial number on the fame may be futile! See this thread https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...ghlight=Canada

Re: Canadian Model A Info
Sorry the image is kind of blurry (I don't have the hi-res image) but this is the location for RHD (RHC as they called it) frame number stamping.

Curious what the small blurry print had to say, so I blew it up fairly large and managed to see/interpret pretty much all of it I think and then superimposed it onto the original: - - |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
A person can follow some of the major updates to the model A by researching the Service Bulletins. The Canadian Ford manufacturing followed that of Ford USA but I don't know how closely they followed. Ford USA changed the brakes multiple times in 1928 to end up with separate parking brake on the rear end. Frames and cross members evolved as well so certain characteristics can be used to date within a range of time. Canada being different, may not have incorporated things the same way. I don't know if production records were archived like they were for USA production at The Henry Ford.

Re: Canadian Model A Info
Please , while we are on the subject of Canadian cars, my 31 Coupe here in Michigan was the recipient of many parts from a Canadian doner that dad and I towed across the bridge back in 1963. The engine is CA05513. As a way of the honoring the cars heritage, the rear window garnish molding is secured with the square head screws.
Can we date the engine from that serial number? Joe B |

Re: Canadian Model A Info
According to these documents your engine will be CAO5513 ( - not CA"zero" as that would have been CA5513) and puts it between Dec 15th 1930 and Jan 15th 1931.
