my new 31 truck!!
Hey folks! I have been browsing and posting a little on the model-t section, and now have a model-a truck so I thought i would introduce myself here also!
I am 26, from Sioux Falls SD. Just got married, and this truck was a wedding gift from my step-fathers sister! It was her fathers before he died, and was handed down. She wanted to keep it in the family, and I am the only one in the family who is interested in cars! It is complete, and needs a little tlc which is the way I want it! I only have one pic so far, there is plenty more to come! The next one is my 1917 model-t, handed down from my step-father. His dad pulled it out of a river and hand made most of it from scratch. I restored this one my self last year, and used it as a get away vehicle in my wedding!! before resto. This next and last one (at this point ) is my 1926 model-t that was also handed down from my step father. His step-father handed this down to him. I restored this one a few years ago. Thanks for looking!!

Re: my new 31 truck!!
Congrats on the wedding and the great "hand me downs" It is nice to see younger enthusiasts in this great hobby/obsession. I started out with a Model T speedster like yours soon after high school. That was 31 years ago and the interest still is strong. I hope to build a C-Cab delivery Model A someday and logo it as a Victrola delivery vehicle as restoring and collecting old phonographs is my other hobby/obsession. Please post more pictures of the cars!!!!!

Re: my new 31 truck!!
I plan on putting some miles on it!! Needs brake work, and a little body work. I work at a body shop so I will do it all myself, makes it more gratifying!

Re: my new 31 truck!!
Your photos remind me of that George Jones song...she reminds me of the one I had back then...seeing your wife in the photo...thought the older guys might get. A chuckle from that ol memory

Re: my new 31 truck!!
you have a great new family!! It looks as if your 31 is mostly original. I'd keep it that way, but replace the non original parts ( like that rear wheel) with good originals, keep the mechanical stuff in good condition and preserve the patina. They're only original once

Re: my new 31 truck!!
I got the mechanic's working today and took her for a short tool around the neighborhood!! Runs good, but needs some brake work haha. It is definately original from what I can see! I also have a full set of original wheels that I am refinishing red, just because I love the look!

Re: my new 31 truck!!
Nice collection of cars! Rebuilding the brakes on your 31 truck won't be hard. I did mine on my 31 Town Sedan using the Les Andrews book as a guide. Have lots of fun with your A and T's!

Re: my new 31 truck!!
You are so lucky!!!! You got the cool cars and the prom queen who likes cars to boot! Leave the truck as is and just change the non original stuff like the rear wheels.

Re: my new 31 truck!!
just keep it the way you got it except for the needed mechanics... then you won't have to guard it so much from scratches and belt buckles....as they say, originals are only that way once......

Re: my new 31 truck!!
One minor bit of trivia that is frequently missed. If you run later solid wheels (like you have on the back) you need to use an adapter ring to make up for the raised ring on the stock mechanical brake drums in the area around the inside of the lug nut pattern. Original wire wheels were stepped slightly to avoid this problem. The result without a ring is dangerous (a wheel can fall off) and you should check that the ring is there. I like the truck. I have a '31 RDPU truck

Re: my new 31 truck!!
Thanks for the kind words and advise!
Charlie, the truck was basically sitting for 20 years on these wheels with no movement. I have a full set of 19" wires that I ordered tires for! They will go on soon hopefully.
