Odd Water Pump?
Got this in a lot of parts recently. The housing is normal but the shaft and impeller are quite different. The impeller is a completely different design with 4 blades and under it is a spring. Anybody ever see one like this before?

Re: Odd Water Pump?
I have some that I got in a collection . They must have been after market . I have used one and it didn't leak , even though no packing or packing nut was used on these pumps .

Re: Odd Water Pump?
Guessing by the spring under the impeller it may have a ceramic seal.

Re: Odd Water Pump?
I wonder if they move more coolant as the impeller is larger and has four blades versus the stock three.

Re: Odd Water Pump?
I am pretty sure that is a Ford replacement using the later V8 type impeller. Tom has several sitting around the shop.

IIRC, the front bearing housing is "small" and contains only a sleeve type bearing lubricated by a grease zerk alemite style - which leads me to believe non-Ford source. Ford tried a sleeve bearing at this location for perhaps a month in 1928 and found it unsatisfactory. They're around muchly and pricing is cheap. But replacement parts are not available and were probably not "in the day" either as one could buy the entire pump for small money. Here's the expensive one on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-1929-1...MAAOSwBsNbcbad There are two others of this kind listed at less than half the price. Joe K
