Default Fuel gage inopp

I have a 36 Model 68 and i'm having a fuel gauge problem. I have 6 volts at the sender but the fuel gauge still reads empty. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 49 Ford. I can access the fuel gauge sending unit from inside the trunk. I pulled it out and the brass float had sprung a leak and sank, thus the "empty" gauge reading. I Soldered the hole and then put it in hot water (if it bubbles you got a hole) and found another hole and soldered it again. I reinstalled it and now it works perfectly.

You need to be asking on the Early V8 forums with questions and replies. This section is for help with the site not car questions. By the way adding too much solder can cause the float to give wrong reading.

Okay, thanks for the reply. I also read where if you ground the wire at the top of the sender to see if the needle on the gauge moves, if it does the gauge is good, sender bad, if it doesn't move the gauge is bad. Is this true?
