Sorry to hijack the thread.
Sal, can the modification be easily reversed? I still have the original distributor with new dual diaphragms as well as the newer distributor that I've been running.

So which would it run better with, the newer distributor or the original distributor and dual diaphragm?

Herman,
The modification for ported manifold vacuum can be reversed, but not real easy. It can be done though.
Since you have a good original '56 distributor with a good dual diaphragm, it should function just as good as the '57 type distributor. You just have to make sure both vacuum lines to the distributor are secure, with no leaks. A vacuum leak means less spark advance and more exhaust heat. Also slightly less power.

Thanks Sal. In that case, I'll keep it original.
I'll contact you later towards the end of the year or sooner about rebuilding it.

You might pick something in between and go from there. I like Brockman Mellow Tones, nice old school sound. Porters are another option. Smittys used to rust out pretty quickly but they may have improved them by now.
Another vote for Brockman Mellow Tones. Had them installed several years ago, and remember how great they sounded.
