Whatchamacallit
On the ends of your choke and throttle rods there is a spring loaded whatchamacallit that you slide back in order to attach or detach the throttle/choke rod to the carburetor linkage. What is the correct nomenclature for that piece? Is that piece available by itself. Most are "crimped" on but I have an old rod, maybe off of an 8N as it was painted red eons ago, that little gizmo that screws onto a threaded rod with an added lock nut. Never seen that type before. Anywho, I would like to get a couple of the removable type if they are available. I think they would look better than putting an adjustable sleeve in the middle of the throttle rod. Sort of makes the rod look like a snake that swallowed a rat.
(Why are you so hung up on this little rod, Lawson? I dunno, maybe that's about all I'm capable of doing nowadays, the small stuff, but I gotta do something or I'll go bonkers.) Thanks for any input guys & Gals.

Re: Whatchamacallit
Speedway has these ends that you can use to make any length of rod.

Re: Whatchamacallit
There is a deep slot in the set screw that screws into the end of the main body. Once you get the tension right, you insert the cotter pin to engage that slot to keep the set screw from loosening up. They must figure 1/2 turn adjustment is close enough.

Lawson, you claim to be a Fordnut and yet you consider cotter pins to be strange? Now THAT is strange.

Re: Whatchamacallit
Alan, a cotter pin is very familiar to me, it's the location that's weird. LOL

Re: Whatchamacallit
These ball and socket fittings remind me of L'Hotellier fittings used in aircraft control rods.

Re: Whatchamacallit
Why does the carb on my 40Merc need an anticattle cap on the throttle/carb rods?

Re: Whatchamacallit
I believe they all had what you call the "anti cattle cap" back in the day. It is the multiple carb linkage that uses the weird "side saddle" style ends. LOL
