I HAVE A NEW PUMP ON on my car but would like a 6volt electric pump as a starting help and cut it off and use the mech. pump. I have tried several e. pumps but none would would work right. What brand do you use? I would like a louder one, i am hard of hearing, what brand and number ?

I put a 6v Elec pump from Mac's NY in '95, I was told-cant have 2 working. Old carbs like low pressure. I read an article telling to remove pump rod & install 6v in gas line in rear near tank. The old pump is said to act as a pressure regulator while keeping the original look up front. Worked great for me from '95 to 2008 when I sold the truck for $ to finish my 36 Cabriolet. Saw somewhere that leaving the rod out hurts oil pressure. I drove my '40 700+ miles a year with no problem. Another benifit is to have seperate switch & you can shut pump off & run the carb out of gas to store. I could always hear the pump run when sitting still??!? Good luck

Bypass hose with a check valve....run the elec pump if you get "vapor lock" or just after the car has been sitting for a while....looks like a mess but it works....when elec pump is off the mech pump just pulls the gas through the bypass hose...the plastic item in the center of the bypass hose is the check valve

I hope thats fuel injection hose on that setup.Other wise the alcohol is going to eat them hoses up in short order. ken ct.

You do not need an electric pump. Buy a good mechanical pump. I bought one from Macs and it will sit all winter and it will start without much cranking. I use to have someone blow in the tank to prime the old pump. I use the button on the solenoid to start the car and watch the sediment bowl fill after the car has sat for a period of time.I give full coke and it starts. The car starts all the time with the new pump after the first spring start.The car required a blow job after sitting for a couple of days with the old pump.

Airtex makes a 6 volt 'Clicker" type pump that the mechanical pump will pull thru with no problem. no need to have a by-pass line with a check valve. Airtex Part Number "E8011". I use them for "Priming Pumps" after the car has sat for a period of time. I have them on a switch and use them for priming only, not for running.
