I never really measured the volume. At 3oz in 15 seconds will give you about 5.6 gallons in an hour. At 60 MPH you would have to be getting something less than 10-11 MPG for it to be a problem.

Did you measure that at idle? Don't forget as the engine RPM's increases when driving the pump will also pump fuel more rapidly - hence more volume. How does the car drive? Drive it on the highway and see.

Ken,

I don't know what he's running. My pickup is getting 16 to 18 MPG so that flow rate would be plenty on mine. 19Fordy is right the faster the engine runs the pump cycles more rapidly = more flow rate.

You can't go by the fuel measured comming out of the fuel line to the carb. On Strombergs there is and .086 hole at the entrance of the needle valve. The real flow to the engine is what you get through that hole. Put an old needle valve fitting on the end of the line and measure what comes through that. This is the real flow into the carb. bowl. 5 gallons per hour at idle is more than you would ever need.

But you are not just sitting there idling, or cruising along at 55 or getting 15 MPG.
Some times when getting going on a hill you will drop down to less than 4 MPG.
A good fuel pump must fill a coke bottle in 20 seconds. If it doen't you'll have trouble at every hill.
I would check for leak in the fuel ine or it is blocked some place.
Take off the flex hose and blow back into the tank with the gas cap off and retest the fuel flow. Let us know what happens.

5 gallons at idle means over 10 gallons at 55 , again much more than enough.

one of the reason flat head fuel pump was replaced was not because the pump was bad but no flow because the rubber line between the firewall and engine gets a soft spot and will suck closed .It is a good procedure when placing the fuel pump to replace the hose and push rod
