Default Need Help With My Trim Codes

Hey all! First time poster. I apologize in advance if I am posting in the wron area. My dad and I have embarked on a new project. We just got a 1954 Sunliner. Can someone please help with the codes under the VIN on the tag? I linked a pic.

76A-N-AB-74-KL222A. ?

I was able to decode the VIN but not all of the codes here. I know the 76A is a Crestline Sunliner and the N code is the paint as Torch Red. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) Do you have a FORD WORKSHOP MANUAL FOR THE CAR?

- https://www.themotorbookstore.com/fo...anuals-cd.html

The CD will include the 1949/59 FORD CAR MPC

2) You need to have that plate duplicated.

- https://www.martiauto.com/tags.cfm

3) Can you provide a close-up of the tag?

I need the first five characters of the VIN (do not post serial numbers).

Look at the BODY CODE more closely. It is 76B.

Trim AB is Black and Light Breen (Vinyl)

The production code that comes next should be a number, then a letter so 74 isn't correct. The 7 would be the day of the month, the letter would signify which month. It looks like a J to me which is Sep.

The rest is the scheduled item number from production.

Red with a black and light green interior. I can't say anything. Mine was originally black with a white top and a green and white interior. When I restored it I kept the green and white interior and painted the roof the same color as the green molding and painted the body white.

From the picture of your door frame I'd guess you have an intense build in front of you.

Looking at the VIN plate, the color is AD, not AB and the body style is 76B, not 76A. There is no 76A in the Ford codes.

My info shows this:

76B = Sunliner Conv. (Crestline)
N = Cameo Coral
AD = Black and Coral Vinyl

The rest I can't match with my info.

Let's try it this way;

SERIAL NUMBER -

U = ENGINE - 239CI - 130HP
4 = MODEL YEAR - 1954
K = ASSY PLANT - KANSAS CITY
C = BODY STYLE CODE - CONVERTIBLE
165661 = CONSECUTIVE SERIAL CODE

76B = BODY TYPE CODE - CRESTLINE CONVERTIBLE COUPE (1952-1954)
N = EXT COLOR - TORCH RED (FORD M-2J-175)
AD = INT TRIM CODE - INFO DELETED FROM MPC PRIOR TO 1956 MODEL YEAR
7J = BUILD DATE CODE

Remaining Characters Unclear

Is the car a 3/S/OD?

I disagree with some of the items below.

From an official Ford Publication (Looks like P-104, Items 669-673 date 12/23/1953, Product Information) N = Cameo Coral and AD = Black and Coral vinyl. As far as the 7 J, the 7 is likely the 7th day of the month and if the letter is a J, this stands for September (in this case probably Sept. 53 as more than likely in Sept 54 the 55;s were starting to be produced.

Initially I took the original 70 as correct but now that I look at it again it looks like 7J.

I have a copy of the same document. It is page 184 but the other numbers are the same you posted.

I was going by the OP's "AB" but it does look like an AD, so Black and Coral would be correct. Paint code I can't decipher from the picture but it could be an R which would be Torch Red. I am inclined to agree that it is an N, Cameo Coral.
