Talking Insurance?

I just completed the paperwork for Grundy collector car insurance for my new 31 Town Sedan. It's due to arrive at 0900 tomorrow morning!

I had looked into Haggerty and another company reccomended by the company that insures my other cars, but the VIN plate guy sent me a Grundy brochure so I tried them today.

$160 bucks a year for estimated 2500-5000 miles of driving, $300K auto liability, and $15K agreed value....that's the ceapest of the three quotes I got. I'm waiting for them to call me for my credit card info so I can pay the premium.

Anyone have any experience with Grundy? Haggerty? Anyone else? By experience, I mean have you filed a claim and how did they handle it?

soooo happy it's coming!

I took Mr. Terry's advice and took out more coverage some time back. Didn't break the bank and you will rest better!!

And I also actually have BOTH Grundy and Hagerty, both are excellent. Grundy was just a few bucks cheaper on two of our cars, but wouldn't hesitate to have either as the sole provider.
Good advise, I am planning on upping it at renewal.

Jeff I feel that's about all my car is worth and that might be stretching it a bit. I don't expect them to replace my coupe with a blue ribbon car or give me the money to turn it into one. If it was a total loss I would just want to be able to replace it with a similar one.

They apparently don't want to insure daily drivers, but don't take that as absolute fact...Grundy I mean.

A drop down menu on their applaication went up to at least 10000 miles. I picked 2501-5000 because I believe it is realistic.

My premium may be a little higher because I opted for $300,000 in liability., + comp and collision.

The $15K is reasonable for me right now as I can replace the car for less than that. If I improve the car much, or if the market seems to be going up, I will increase the amount next year.

I tend to base my value on cars with the Hemmings.com search, and an advanced search of ebay for only SOLD vehicles.

Our cars are not selling for what they once did. I found home restorations for $30K plus when I was looking, and ragged cars for $10-15K asking, but I saw not evidence they were selling for that amount.

Following Craig's list in El Paso I see the same high priced cars listed off and on for two years now. There's the occasional bargain...like the 29 roadster, restored and driving, for $5500 or best offer....I missed it by an hour.

I was going to go with Grundy as I got more coverage for a bit less money. I was told by the person I spoke to that there was no mileage limit, however it could not be use as a daily driver. Its was all fine until he told me no overnight trips, at the end of the day they want it back in your garage. So I stayed with Hagarty as they understood about the touring aspect of Model A ownership.

15 is way to low on most driver quality cars. folks tend to forget about time and money put into these cars after purchase. agreed value is a different ball game which most really know nothing about but think they do.
driver cars should be insured for 25-35k and show quality cars higher depending on the investment.....
your talking another 100 for that addtl coverage and your not being sleezy or crooked. its your dime do as you please...
this has been discussed many times as the old saying goes you can lead a horse to water but not make him drink it
I use Grundy and never had a problem insuring my cars for whatever value i thought was needed. Same goes for anyone i know that uses them. Try it

Reminds me of the H L Menkin's definition of horticulture. "you can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think"

RobertB: This has been discussed many times before. Try doing a "search". Black bar at the top of the page.
Ins is almost like oil, tires, some like one brand and others another.

FWIW I have Hagerty thru my local agent, AARP The Hartford on my regular cars.

I may not be as simple as saying that I want to insure my vehicle for "X" amount. The insurer has to agree that "X" is a realistic value.

An issue here in the North, Hagerty does not let you drop collision over the winter months while the car is in slumber. I stay with them anyway.

My policy with Grundy does not charge for Liability on additional cars after 3 cars are on the policy.

Several years ago a person I know filed a claim against Grundy and was blown away by the service. They paid for the towing, which is what he initially asked for, then asked why he needed the tow and they covered all kinds of stuff like the radiator that was damaged when the fan came apart the hood repair and paint plus paid him for the work he had done on his own! He became a real fan of Grundy from that.
