16 Big and Little Tire Sizes For 35/36 Fords
I am looking to see if anyone is running a set of 16 big and little tires on 35/36 Fords. My car running a stock rear end and a stock axle that was dropped 4. Any pictures would be helpful. I was thinking to use radial 550X16s for the front and either 650X16s or 700X16s for the rear.
Here is a picture of my car currently with the dropped axle and on a set of 600X16 tires. Thanks in advance for any help. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: 16 Big and Little Tire Sizes For 35/36 Fords
I did 6.5s up front and 7's out back. 5.5s seems to small for me but I'm also using a standard front axle so I don't worry about turning. Seemed to fill out the rear wheel well. I have a 2" drop axle with a shortened track width (for wheel to fender clearance) from another project, but haven't wanted to install.
5.5 white walls are only in 1-2" (back when I ordered). If you are going 3-4" WWs. Better if they match. All the pictures are not there anymore but... https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42056 6s and 6.5s in the rear. 6s & 7s A set of 7s out back would be nice on your car. I've got 6.00s on the front and 6.50s on the back of my '35 truck, with a 1" drop spring on the front. I'll find some pics, but I like how it sits. Just enough of a rake.

...Here is a pic of HEARD's little '36 3-w. It has a 4"-drop front axle, with 5.50 R 16 Stahl Radials (on 4"-wide Ford wheels FRONT), and 7.50 R 16 Stahls (on 4-1/2" wide Ford wheels REAR). DD

Re: 16 Big and Little Tire Sizes For 35/36 Fords
Heres an update on my original post. I went with 700 x 16s for the rear and 550 x 16s for the front. The tires Diamondback Auburn deluxe radial tires. Running a 4 dropped front axle with stock springs front and back. Im still contemplating reverse eye springs.

I like the tan '36 a lot better than the red '35. It is possible to get a car too low.

Re: 16 Big and Little Tire Sizes For 35/36 Fords
My ’34 roadster had a front spring with reversed eyes when I bought it. I saw that these eyes had been hitting the axle as there were marks/dents on the axle ends. I replaced the spring with a conventional one, problem solved.

Long long ago, when I was young, we lifted the front and dropped the rear to give it that " taking off " look. Anybody else old enough to remember those days?

Are you talking the "tail-dragger" look? We did the same in the sixties, but that was to emulate Gassers, Super Stocks and Factory Expermentals. We called it the "weight-transfer" look.

Re: 16 Big and Little Tire Sizes For 35/36 Fords
Sounds like the spring was built or purchased too long. Reversed eyes or original configuration shouldn't make any difference related to the eyes contacting the axle. That should be controlled by the spring length and proper shackles.
