Re: Parts suppliers
I have been using Mac's for the past 12 months or so and have been very happy with them. I generally receive my order in Australia within 10 working days of submitting the order.
I believe there is no one "perfect" supplier so consider it counter productive to make comparisons. Ones opinion should be based on personal experiance and less on others who may have an axe to grind. |

Re: Parts suppliers
I've been a buyer in both situations, living in Europe and buying from the states and living in the states and buying from Europe. The hassle sellers have goes both ways and I don't blame many suppliers for balking going either way. One way is the VAT paperwork, beside insurance and shipping, the other, customs, slowdown going through customs, paperwork and insurance. VAT is automatic whereas Customs depends upon the agent receiving the goods for examination. There are many 1930s items on eBay that I'd love to have but.....most won't ship to the USA...too much hassle. Can't afford the insurance and postage also.................
As for Model A parts, before I buy, if I don't plan on installing the item myself, 10% of the time, I check with Sarah's gynecologist first before I buy the part. I have bought a few of Mac's Wacky deals but most have come from Snyder's and then Berts.

Re: Parts suppliers
Up-date!!!!
In desperation I wrote (by letter post, rather than email) to the CEO of Ecklers in Florida, Mr Richard Spratt. I received a prompt courteous email from him direct, with profuse apologies and copies of the invoice I requested. Later the same day I received the same invoice by email from some manager at Macs. What does that tell you? It is sad that one has to write to the boss to get some basic customer service.... Macs obviously have some major middle management problems, that and their robotic help line. So, just to let you know, I finally I have my invoice. |

Re: Parts suppliers
I want to say congratulations but it does not seem right. Anyway, glad to hear you got what you needed.

Re: Parts suppliers
So let me get this straight. Did you get the parts? Or are you waiting for an invoice before paying? I'm a bit confused because when I order off them it's all there on the shopping cart including shipping and I pay with paypal and my stuff arrives a week later ( and thats to Australia) and I bolt it on the car and go for a drive. It's that simple.

Re: Parts suppliers
To clarify Managers comment, I ordered the parts, but Mac's were unclear what the shipping costs would be. I received the usual rough price/invoice when I made the order.
There were a couple of additions to the order but the shipping costs and the final total were vague, to say the least. Hence I asked for a final total, all included. We all take things on a certain amount of trust when we buy on the internet. We hand over our credit card details so the very least we want is an itemised invoice of our purchases. |

Re: Parts suppliers
I am glad it all worked out and, while you had to write an old-fashioned letter, it still was completed, ultimately, in a more or less gentlemanly fashion. One could then hope that your predicament would be a learning lesson for them to improve their service.
On the other hand, I went into my local lumberyard this week, where they sell the good stuff. One of the owners sat with us for about 45 minutes while we worked through a rather expensive porch railing order, some of which was custom organized. He gave me a copy of the order, didn't need a deposit, I only had a rough idea of prices from a catalog but ballpark was fine in this case. It arrived as promised and I picked it up, got my invoice and paid the bill-which was $350 less than I was expecting. Think those folks will get my business again? |

Re: Parts suppliers
I've seen very little mention of Gaslight on the forum, is this a supplier that is not normally used by our members, if I need something quick I will run over there, they are about 25 miles away, if not I always seem to use Snyder's or Bert's

Re: Parts suppliers
It wasn't exactly an emergency type of request so that is why it took a week. So now that Macs is in your past make sure the new supplier knows what you want and won't read about it on the Barn. These guys work darn hard on our behalf and if is not nice to read negative comments about your company.
Obviously after this transaction and all your comments, you told the CEO that you will never deal with Macs again. Wayne |

Re: Parts suppliers
First of lol Scott Brooks is a gentleman! So now that you are even up this is a great opportunity to switch to another supplier and avoid the frusteation in the future. Wayne
