Hi Everyone, Really cool rolling car show!

They were all race cars, or at least entered in a race. Any class including V, 8, and F, was a flathead V8.

The first car, the T modified is the leader in the unblown flathead roadster class. It ran somewhere around 105 I think.

I ran 99.8 and came 3rd in the same class. (I think).

That was shot as the cars were driving into the pits through the public car park, and probably by a member of the public, hence, I would assume, the somewhat misuse of the rat rod monicker.

That's me at 3:21 in No.47 (RHD).

The 124 roadster pickip at 11.26 took top speed of the meet at 116 mph, after a lot of fettling by owner Matt Farrant.

We don't drive them into the water. The bad thing is you will keep finding sand, in your car, for ever, no matter how many times you clean it.
Any more, they don't even let car shows, on the beach. The big hotels don't like beach driving, in front of their hotels, so now, the politicians are against it too. It might become a thing of the past.

I can't believe the amount of cars that have been imported recently into the UK. They have to be recent imports, as the majority are LHD. If it weren't for the parked cars in the background, the video could have been shot in the USA.

Majority are not recent imports..they have been around as HotRods since the 80's...the traditional scene started back then over here and many of the cars that became " street rods" had the running gear stripped out and could be had for virtually pocket change.

great video.....and some of the comments show how particular some of us have become on showing our cars. in the 50's there was really no such thing as trailer queens in my memory. we drove our cars and they got dirty and they got scratched and they sometimes got dented and nobody had a heart attack. i'm not being picky but what is the fun in driving a hotrod if you are afraid to get it wet or dusty or too nervous about the 10,000 dollar paint job to enjoy it? jmho.

LHD don't meen squit. Most of them built over here (England) are built left hand drive. Some are right hand drive, but that's a minority.
Although most Brits tend to think that our legislation re modifications to old stuff is really tight, compared to most other countries that do this stuff it's actually really loose. If you take an informed approach to registering the car. It does get tighter every so often, just gota know how to work the system.
From what I can work out, if US stuff is registered on year of manufacturer plates, there are limitations on use? And if you have a pickup but the YOM plates are off a car, you can't put stuff in the bed?
We don't have any of that nonsense. Our side, you import an old car/pickup/whatever, it gets age related plates, and is registered. No limits on use. Just drive it, use it, abuse it.
Registering modified stuff imported is a nightmare now. So import a stocker, register it, then modify it. There are limits on how much away from stock ish you can go and retain its identity, this is not a problem building proper hot rods. Street rods with funky suspension is more of a problem as it almost definalty will loose its identity. This draws you into reregistering it as a highly modified car, that's a whole different kettle of fish, gota have all the modern nonsense, no sharp edges (measured minimum radius) fog light seat belt anchor points with belts, measured seat hight to dash hight to head restraint hight, no frame horns sticking out and such, makes it become something like that Plymouth prowler thing but without those silly bumpers.

The US rules you are refering to are different state by state. As far as I know very few states have tight rules.

I have no idea about most states, I live in Kansas. Easy to get a title, just send in the frame number to the state and they send you a title in the mail. I far as I know they would have no idea or care what state it was from, they have never ask me!
In some states it may be an issue. Might be like living in England and registering a car from Germany or France. But like I said I do not know other states or country's laws.

When you see the pictures of other beach based events, it's easy to see the quality of the sand surface is nowhere near what we are lucky to have at Pendine. The big leveller is the half mile run up. You need enough power to get up to a decent speed, but you also need the skill to lay that power down effectively to keep the car accelerating right through the run.

Most cars would achieve a higher speed on the open road, if it were legal to do so, which is the opposite of what the situation was in the 1920s when this beach was the fastest place you could drive because no roads had been built that were up to that standard. As time went by, places like Bonneville took over.

The Pendine event is the one event you look forward to for a year and then you do it and look forward to it for next year.

Yes it can. My state, Maine, doesn't issue titles for vehicles over 16 yrs. old. 25 and older can have an Antique Vehicle plate. You have to sign an affidavit that states you have a daily driver with regular plates....MARK

Exactly! I cant see the point of having a car that gives you a heartattack worrying about the paint or getting dirty. My open bonnet AV8 has been driven in torrential rain and mud, and people keep asking when I'm gonna paint it.... well, it is painted, it's just not shiny.
