1918 Chevy V8, I know its a Ford Forum...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5unH0BaCe0
I think even Ford guys would get a kick out of this link. I was speaking to a few VCCA guys this past weekend. (Vintage Chevy Club of America) They were at Flint for the 100th Birthday of Chevrolet. I didnt go cause it was in Flint However I was told it was a great time. The highlight to me, and the only thing I would have gone up there for had I known, was this mans Complete and Original 1918 Chevrolet V8. He was a really cool guy, as he was giving rides to anyone that wanted one on the fairgrounds all week. Chevy made a V8 from 1914 to 1918. The reason they quit was they were told pistons on their sides would never work. Thats according to the George Damanns 75 years of Chevrolet book. The engine for those that have never seen one is a over head valve engine. The carb sits on a little spyder intake, and the distributor is right behind the carb almost in the center of the engine. The only down side about the video is he never shows the dang engine! I use to have pictures but cannot find one. Another nice thing about this guy is he is driving the car. Its not sitting somewhere gathering dust. His plans are to run the car in the 100th anniversary great race, like the Tony Curtis movie. I posted this in the Teens section as its a teen! Hey Ryan, mabey you can dig up some more! |

The first Chevy V8's were a failure on many levels. They were noisy, prone to failure and didn't sell. They are very rare, and for good reason. I wish I had one.

ken 1939 ...................
Back about 1960, a fellow, that I worked with, knew of an early V8 Chevrolet touring car, on a farm, close to his. It was covered up in hay bales. This was in central West Virginia. Sadly, I was not interested in it. Don't know what ever happened to it. MIKE |
