This is not a number that would relate to the Model A numbering sequence.
If the number is A467968 it would relate to an engine built on September 27th of 1928. It would have been one of 4392 engines built that day.
The frames were stamped with the engine number at the time of assembly.

Ok thanks

Is the frame only stamped in one area ? Or multiple? Like 1940?

The frames were only stamped on the top rail of the left side of the frame under the location of the cowl.

This is what our 1930 Phaeton's frame serial number looks like. The car came out of the Mohave desert so there wan't any rust hinding the frame number.

So if my frame is stamped *2909353* that means that the engine had that serial Number? I am trying to find out what the body style was for the original vehicle. I believe the frame is 1928/29, but do not know if coupe, phaeton, truck or ???? I am new at this, so any help is appreciated.

The engine was stamped when completed, then the same number was stamped on the frame when the engine was installed, so it could be a few days or months later. The number is only a serial number and won't tell what body was original to the frame.

If you have two extra body mount holes where the rear of a pickup cab ends, and the holes look original, bit hard to discern if they were done on the assembly line after 85 years , but if you could, this would mean it was a pickup.

And vice versa, if there are no holes there, it means it definitely was not a pickup (from new ).

Can you provide as much information as you can about frame number "AX2911751". I believe it was stamped in February 1930. Is that correct? What does the "AX" indicate? Thank you, Warren

Hi, could you post a picture of the serial number from a little farther back so I can see exactly where I'm going to have to look for my A's serial number? Also, is it possible to see the number with the apron removed and the body lifted a couple of inches? Thanks.

There is a photograph at Jim Mason's site (thanks Jim) that shows the serial number location. http://jmodela.coffeecup.com/numbers.html
