39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
I have installed a new clutch in my 39 but now I am unable to Get the clutch to work. I have been trying to get the pedal assembly adjusted properly with the fork and the lever on the side of the transmission. Please give me any advice for adjusting the fork and pedal assembly. Am I missing something?

Ford 39 the floor must be put back in.
With the pedal up, then push arm till hits throw-out bearing. Then hook linkage up with the pin. Make longer or shorter. Throw-out bearing should hit 1" from top. |

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
I have tried practically every position on the fork. Nothing seems to pull the clutch out of the way. I do think I feel the throwout bearing Working, but the clutch is not being moved out of the way. I have been all up and down the adjustable fork

Does it not release (so you can put in gear/change gears) or does it not drive the car? What was wrong with the clutch you took out? Have you tried to remove the inspection cover on the transmission bell to monitor the throwout bearing? |

Assume you are referring to the pressure plate not moving? The clutch disc really doesn't move over a fraction on an inch.

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
That might help see what is going on. The throwout bearing should be fairly close to the fingers on the pressure plate in the relaxed position. What is happening when you depress the clutch pedal, does it just become solid when you start to press it or does it go all the way down with little resistance?

Not to insult you but is there any chance that the clutch disc was installed backwards?

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
You said in an earlier post "Nothing seems to pull the clutch out of the way." The fork pushes against the fingers on the pressure plate. I almost sounds that something is in backwards. Or maybe just a difference in terminology?

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
I don,t know if you have a new style pressure plate. Some company couldn't copy it right.
Can you remember if the fingers had adjusting screws. Some pack packer thought to make finger like sliced bread. The trouble is the fingers are to far away from throw-out bearing and much as 1/4" Another piece of shit. |

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
Seery: I removed now the inspection plate and looked at what is going on. The throwout bearing is moving freely and pulls back those arms when relaxed. It seems to be moving freely. Does move those arms when depressed.
I installed a new ten inch clutch. The old nine inch one got weak behind my 59ab |

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
I think the throw out bearing is moving the arms about a half of an inch

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
Your clutch will never be right you will need to make lever longer and will never have one" play. It will disengage very close to floor

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
You probably would have been better off sticking with the 9in, but guess that is water under the bridge now. You can start modifying components, but need to really understand what is going on with the pressure plate first.

You say "I think the throw out bearing is moving the arms about a half of an inch". I'm just a "shoebox" guy and don't have one of these, but shouldn't that be plenty?

Re: 39 new clutch: how To adjust pedal assembly
If you look down the inspection hole, depress the clutch pedal and do not see the pressure plate move rearward, I'd say there is a problem with the pp. It should move rearward evenly, all the way around, about 1/16 to 1/8 in. if I remember correctly.
