Default fiber washer on rear drums?

I was looking in the greenbook and noticed there is suppose to be a fiber washer that goes on the outside of the drum before the keyed washer and castle nut? I do not have this, is this something I can make or is it something i really need to worry about putting on?

I made them out of leather by cutting up an old belt. Very easy to make. Drill a hole in the leather belt and then cut it out to size and squeeze it on with the flat washer and axle nut. They work great.
I think they help prevent grease from oozing out.

Most vendors have them, I got a pair this past summer without any problem. You don't want to not have them. You will have seeps of oil with dust all over without them.

Hey BillyBob,
Yeah as stated, the suppliers carry them. They are for lube control. I just made mine , last week, out of a rubber grommet that fits into a firewall hole...just cut it in half and use one half in each axle end..works great
