Default update on Winnipeg stranded flathead guy

My friend is still stuck in Winnipeg. He has very limited flathead knowledge and very basic hand tools. He pulled the intake and found a horse shoe clip had come out. The horseshoe clip is hammered up pretty good. Also one shim is bust up. It sounds like he drove it like that for 8 or 9 hours. Question is what can he expect to happen if he drives it that way to my place? Another 6 hours. Thanks Bill

Is there any shop in that area that has a mechanic?

I drove a 53 flathead with the valve keepers off one valve (#7 cylinder) from Nashville,TN to Winnsboro, TX in 2010 coming back from the Eastern National.
He can do it. Keep us up to date. Charles

He can do as Gerrald suggested. Inspect the other clips and keepers to be sure they are OK. Even if a valve is hung open the cylinder can't be harmed. The concern would be if the valve broke. It will just run a bit rough, V7 instead of V8.

There is a fellow over there as we speak. I spoke to him on the phone and all looks pretty good and should be running in an hour or so. Special big thanks to Ronnie and his friend Bob who showed up with parts and tools and above all flatty knowledge. Bill

Well my friend is up and back on the road due to the efforts of Ronnie's friend Bob. Replaced the clip, adjusted the valve gap and also did a tune up. Very nice to see a fellow step up and help a stranger this way. Thanks guys, Bill

Tha's a great story. It's always nice to hear about fellow flathead guys stepping up to the plate to help another flathead guy in distress.
God bless them. Jay
