Default DIY Ignition cable

So I bought this 31 rolling chassis which included motor, trans, and cowl. Having never owned anything this complete, I'm trying to see if I can get her running. One thing I didn't realize is what the threaded hole on the side of the distributor was for. So after some research I learned and decided to make my own (temporary) cable using a 1/2" pipe thread barb fitting, a piece of fuel line with a smaller piece inside to insulate, a spring to supply tension, and a Harley spoke nipple shortened and reshaped, then soldered to the wire.

Thank you all, it was a fun project. Now I have to wait 7-10 days for a bunch of items from Mike's

Remember to NOT overtighten the threaded fitting into to side of the distributor. The center wire just needs to make contact. When over tightened, you can cause the lower plate to short out with the distributor body.

I drove my '29 tudor home using regular 12 gauge wire to the spark plugs, worked just fine even if it did look a little strange.

I connected a buzz box so I knew when it made contact, then turned a little more. 😎

Mind sharing what you paid for the engine?
Give some of us an idea of a starting range.
Looks very complete, assume it also has the tranny too?
