Default king sealy gauges

gauges in my 39 are in need of help i understand that they are 6 volt pulse type and i need to control voltage to no more than 7 volts nominal but will they handle a polarity reversal [the car was converted to 12v neg earth prior to me acquiring it

The sender is basically a ground path for the gauge.
It works by regulating the current flow and doesn't care about polarity.
